Mahjong Connect Rules

A pair must show the same face and have an unobstructed route. Unlike a stacked Mahjong puzzle, a tile does not need a free left or right side before you select it. What matters is the path between the two chosen positions. The route may cross empty cells but never an occupied cell, and it may use at most two turns. If the faces differ or the route needs a third turn, the selection is rejected and both tiles remain in place.

Each level uses a fixed, verified arrangement with a complete solution. You can still choose a different removal order, and that order affects which routes open next. If the remaining board reaches a state with no legal match, the game automatically shuffles the remaining faces while preserving the spaces you already cleared.

How Tile Connections Work

A zero-turn connection is a clear horizontal or vertical line. A one-turn connection forms an L shape through one empty corner. A two-turn connection uses three straight segments and two corners. The corners may be inside the board, in spaces created by earlier matches, or beyond the outer row or column.

Outside-board routes are especially useful when the center is crowded. Two edge tiles can connect by leaving the active grid, travelling along its empty border, and returning to the match. The animated line follows the route calculated by the game, so you can see whether a successful pair used a straight path, an inner corner, a corridor, or the outside edge.

Mahjong Connect vs Mahjong Solitaire

Both games are single-player tile-matching puzzles with familiar Mahjong artwork, but their boards and rules are different. Mahjong Solitaire builds layered shapes. A tile is playable only when nothing covers it and at least one horizontal side is open. You remove two matching exposed tiles to uncover the structure below.

Mahjong Connect uses a flat board. Tiles do not cover one another, and matching depends on the route between identical faces. Empty spaces are part of the puzzle because they become lanes for later connections. If you prefer layered layouts and free-side rules, you can play Classic Mahjong Solitaire.

Tips for Clearing the Board

• Remove obvious straight pairs to create useful lanes.
• Check the outside border when two edge tiles look blocked.
• Open narrow corridors before spending isolated easy pairs.
• Look for moves that connect two previously separate areas.
• Recheck the center after every removal because new corners appear.
• Use Hint to learn a route, then inspect why that path works.
• Use Shuffle when the remaining distribution offers poor options.

Fast matching can produce a good completion time, but planning matters more on dense boards. A pair that opens several empty cells is often more valuable than one sitting alone at an already open edge.
