Play Classic Mahjong Solitaire with Large Tiles

Match two available Mahjong tiles to remove them from the board. A tile is available when no tile covers it and at least one of its left or right sides is open. Most tiles must have the same symbol to match; flower tiles match other flowers, while season tiles match other seasons.

The default Turtle layout has 144 tiles arranged in five layers. Choose another shape from Layouts whenever you want a different board. Each new deal starts with at least one verified complete clearing sequence. Your own choices can still create a dead end, so look ahead before removing a pair.

Full-Screen Mahjong with Easy-to-Read Tiles

Use Full Screen to hide the surrounding interface and give the tile layout more room. The board expands as far as the available display allows while keeping the complete layout visible. The amount of enlargement depends on your screen size and the layout's shape. You can exit full screen without losing your current game.

For comfortable play, use a desktop or laptop screen, keep browser zoom at a readable level, and choose a layout whose proportions suit your display. Full Screen increases the space available to the board; it is not a manual zoom or pan mode.

Explore 83 Classic Mahjong Layouts

Start with Turtle, the familiar layered 144-tile board. Try Pyramid for a different silhouette or Bridge for another arrangement of overlapping tiles. Open Layouts to browse preview thumbnails, search layout names, and select from 83 available layouts. Each is a distinct tile arrangement, not a locked level you must unlock.

Classic Mahjong Solitaire FAQ

Is Classic Mahjong Solitaire free to play?

Yes. Play the browser game without downloading an app.

Is every starting deal solvable?

Every accepted starting deal is checked against a complete legal clearing sequence. A player can still reach a dead end by choosing a different removal order.

How many layouts are available?

The game offers 83 validated layouts. Each layout supports new deals, so you can replay the same shape with different tiles.

Are large tiles available?

Yes. The Full Screen mode hides nonessential interface elements and enlarges the whole board to fit the available space. Exact tile size depends on your display and the selected layout.

What is the difference between Mahjong Solitaire and multiplayer Mahjong?

Mahjong Solitaire is a single-player matching puzzle: remove pairs of available tiles until the board is empty. It is different from traditional four-player Mahjong, which uses drawing, discarding, and forming hands.
