How to Share a Custom 2048 Game with Friends

Learn how to create and share a custom 2048 game link, let friends play your photo tiles, and remix a shared game without changing the original.

Play 2048 Custom

A custom 2048 game becomes much more fun when someone else can open the same photo version and play it.

With 2048 Custom, you can create a game from your own pictures, generate a share link, and send that link to another person. They can open it in a browser and play the same custom tile set without installing an app.

If they want to change the pictures, they can customize their own copy instead of editing your original game.

What gets shared?

A shared custom 2048 link contains access to the game template you created.

That template includes the information needed to rebuild the game, such as:

  • the game name;
  • the photo tile mapping;
  • the tile values;
  • the custom configuration required to display the game.

It does not need to include your current board position, score, undo history, or paused state.

In other words, you are sharing the game setup, not your current play session.

How to create a share link

First, open 2048 Custom and create your game.

You can upload anywhere from one to eleven photos.

After applying the photos, choose Share.

The game prepares the images for sharing and creates a unique game link.

The link will look similar to:

https://uletime.com/games/2048-custom/?game=...

You can then copy the link or use your device's native share menu when available.

What happens to the photos?

Photos are processed before they are uploaded for sharing.

The game prepares smaller WebP versions instead of sending the original full-resolution phone photos.

This helps reduce:

  • upload time;
  • storage use;
  • bandwidth;
  • loading time for the person opening the game.

The shared game uses those prepared tile images.

Can anyone with the link see the photos?

Yes.

If a custom game is shared, anyone who has the link can load the images used in that game.

That means you should only share photos you are comfortable making accessible through the game link.

Do not use highly private, confidential, or sensitive images in a game you plan to share publicly.

Can my friend edit my original game?

No.

A shared game should behave like a read-only original.

Your friend can play it immediately.

If they choose Customize This Game, the shared configuration is copied into a new local draft.

They can then:

  • delete images;
  • replace images;
  • rename the game;
  • apply the new tile set;
  • share their own version.

Their changes do not overwrite your original shared game.

What is a remix?

A remix is simply a customized copy of an existing shared game.

For example:

  1. You create a cat 2048.
  2. You share the link with a friend.
  3. Your friend opens the game.
  4. They choose Customize This Game.
  5. They replace some cat photos with their own.
  6. They share the new version.

The new version receives its own game ID and its own share link.

Your original link continues to load your original game.

This makes it possible to use one custom game as a starting point without giving other players permission to overwrite it.

How to share on a phone

On supported mobile browsers, the Share button can open the phone's native sharing interface.

From there, you may be able to send the game through apps such as:

  • Messages;
  • WhatsApp;
  • Telegram;
  • email;
  • social apps;
  • other installed sharing targets.

The exact list depends on the device and browser.

If native sharing is not available, use Copy Link and paste the URL into the app you want.

How to share on desktop

Desktop browsers may not always support the same native share interface.

The most reliable option is Copy Link.

Once copied, you can paste the game URL into:

  • email;
  • chat;
  • Discord;
  • Slack;
  • social posts;
  • forums;
  • private messages.

The recipient only needs a modern browser to open the game.

Does the other person need an account?

No.

A shared game should open directly from the link.

The recipient does not need to create an account, install software, or configure the tile set again.

This keeps the sharing flow simple:

create → share → open → play.

Can I change a game after sharing it?

Your local draft can still be changed, but once a shared version is published, it is safer to treat that shared game as fixed.

If you make major changes and want to share them, generate a new link.

This avoids a situation where somebody opens an old link later and sees a different game from the one you originally sent.

What if the shared link stops working?

A shared game may be unavailable if:

  • the game ID is invalid;
  • the shared game was removed;
  • the server is temporarily unavailable;
  • a required image failed to load.

If that happens, refresh the page and try again.

If the game is permanently unavailable, you can return to the main 2048 Custom page and create a new version.

What makes a custom game worth sharing?

A custom game is most shareable when the pictures have meaning for the recipient.

Examples:

  • a family photo game;
  • a birthday game;
  • a pet game;
  • a couple's photo game;
  • a trip recap;
  • a sports-team version;
  • an inside-joke meme set;
  • a game built around a favorite character.

The best shared games feel personal rather than random.

Create, share, and remix

A good sharing flow should stay simple.

Create your photo tiles, generate a link, send it, and let the other person play immediately.

If they want to make changes, they can remix their own copy without touching your original version.

Start with 2048 Custom and create a photo 2048 game you actually want to send to someone.
